Procedural Moon Generator for Blender 3.3 Using Geometry Nodes

This Blender 3.3 project file creates a moon using both geometry nodes and procedural textures working together. The cratering effect is acheived using Distribute Points on Faces with Transfer Attribute to pass a crater radius back to the sphere's mesh. While the effect is used somewhat subtly here, the same technique can be used unsubtly to create a sea-urchin or sponge-like result. The dark seas are created with a noise texture which is used both to control the amount of flattening of the mesh as well as the darkness of the texture. This nicely simulates the lava flows on our moon that created the dark patches or "maria".

Values to control the size of the moon, the amount of detail, and a random seed are exposed in the attributes. Inside node group are nodes to control the spacing, distribution, and depth of craters to create varied effects. A procedural texture is included as well.
